One of the tasks that is included in our yearly marketing plan is on floor peer reviews for our personal trainers. If you haven’t included this in your yearly marketing plan it isn’t too late! Remember, your clients expect the very best from you and your team. Spending time reviewing each of your personal trainers (rookies and experienced trainers) helps the them hone in on what is expected of them and allows their peers to give constructive feedback.

Our Peer Review Process for Trainers:
Choose a time slot to evaluate your partner based on your schedule availability, your desire to learn/evaluate a certain program/session and/or the individual’s desire to have a certain program/session be evaluated.
Meet with the individual, you are evaluating for 30 minutes afterward (doesn’t have to be immediately after but that can be helpful when the evaluation is fresh in your mind) and review your thoughts/successes/suggestions.
You don’t have to tell your partner when you will be evaluating – we should all always be ready to be evaluated.
Record this time on payroll under meeting or inform your direct manager – our trainers will be paid meeting wage for conducting the peer review.
Make a copy of the review form, give one to the person you are evaluating and submit the other to your direct manager.
Goal date for completion is March 31st.
What Peers Should be Looking for During Peer Review:
Arrives early and prepared for session
Appropriate attire, hygiene and speech
Gives a warm greeting to client
Checks with client on the status of their workouts/fitness routine
Has client sign in for session
Finishes session on time
Teaches exercises using an appropriate style (explain, demonstrate, client practices, quizzing)
Session is dynamic and interactive
Offers regular and appropriate eye contact
Body language demonstrates focus and attention on client / Hands-on spotting
Make sure your standards are being met. Take the time to conduct on floor peer reviews with your staff!
