How to Create or Revamp YOUR Mission Statement:

Definition of Mission Statement: a formal summary of the aims and values of a company, organization, or individual.

Be clear and concise.  State your mission in less than a paragraph.

For example, at Northwest Personal Training & Fitness Education, our mission statement is:

“To help our clients adopt a more healthy and fit lifestyle so they look and feel better”

Other examples:

  • To provide a one-stop Mind/Body/Spirit Personal Training experience for everyone.
  • To offer affordable and high quality personal training services to the general public
  • To help menopausal women achieve a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
  • To help children adopt a healthy lifestyle and learn to love physical activity
  • To assist other health professionals rehabilitate those suffering from various physical injuries

Note – it is also helpful to write your own personal mission statement and check back with both your business and personal mission statement to ensure you are staying on track!

Have a Concrete Vision Statement:

Definition of Vision: An aspirationional description of what an organization would like to achieve or accomplish in the mid-term or long-term future. It is intended to serve as a clear guide for choosing current and future courses of action.

For example, at Northwest Personal Training & Fitness Education, our Vision is:

“A personalized fitness program for everyone.”

Have a Motto that sticks!

Definition of Motto: a short sentence or phrase that expresses a rule guiding the behavior of a particular person or group.

For example, at Northwest Personal Training & Fitness Education, our Motto is:

“Looking Good and Feeling Great”

Our business is focused on the Feeling Great aspect and all our materials represent this with “Feeling Great” being larger in font and more emphasized in its placement.

Other motto examples:

  • 100% Customer Satisfaction
  • Most affordable Personal Training services

Note:  it is also helpful to write your own personal motto and check back with both your business and personal motto to ensure you are staying on track!

Besides having a strong mission, vision and motto it is also a good idea to have your company values and code of ethics in place.

What are Your Top Company Values?

Do you value high quality equipment and amenities, education, high-end training services, cleanliness, ethical business practices and procedures, customer service, cutting-edge programming, profitability, community involvement, happy and satisfied staff, client retention, or alliances with local business that share common a common vision and values.  Which values are most important to you?

Do You Have Company Codes of Ethics Established?

Definition of Code of Ethics: A guide of principles designed to help professionals conduct business honestly and with integrity. A code of ethics document may outline the mission and values of the business or organization, how professionals are supposed to approach problems, the ethical principles based on the organization’s core values and the standards to which the professional will be held.

We recommend that you look at the code of ethics IDEA has established for the Personal Training industry that you can use or model after. Click HERE to see IDEA’s code of ethics for personal trainers.
