Why You Should be Conducting Performance Appraisals

It is the last day of 2021. Many of us are taking the time to evaluate the past year and gathering data on how our fitness business have fared. Part of that year end wrap up should include performance appraisals for each of your staff members.

Here at Northwest Personal Training we are proud to say that we have the best personal trainers in the world. In order to keep that statement true….we must focus on consistent personal growth. It is a critical action that keeps our team developing and growing.

Each staff member will undergo a number of formal and informal evaluations throughout the year. Right now, it is time for Performance Appraisals. This thorough review is scheduled in late December/early January.

Our Fitness and Training Director finds time on each staff member’s calendar and schedules an hour of their time. Our Fitness and Training Director will have a Performance Appraisal filled out and ready to discuss with each staff member individually.

The Performance Appraisal Includes:

Evaluation of employee performance

Review of company expectations/policies

Establishment of new revenue/hourly goals

Time to sign an updated employee contract

Review of wages for the upcoming year


Conducting Performance Appraisals gives both managers and staff a formal time to discuss any issues that may have arisen throughout the year….and time to work through solutions and plans for the upcoming year.

Taking the time to review areas for improvement, successes, company expectations and any wage changes is extremely important for both your staff and for the success of your fitness business. If you haven’t already…. start including performance appraisals in your yearly business plan.
