Everyone loves a summer vacation…even fit pros! So, how do you ensure that both your clients and staff are happy when personal trainers take time off? In this previous blog post I explain how and why we require our personal trainers to find coverage with another NWPT trainer.

Today, I would like to explain how to approach a client about working with another trainer while you are away.

How To (And Not To) Approach a Client About Working With Another Trainer While You Are On Vacation

The Wrong Way:

Trainer: Hey Joe, I’m going to be on vacation in 2 weeks.  Do you want me to get another trainer to cover your sessions while I’m away?

Client: No, that’s okay.  I’ll just work out on my own while you’re away.  I’ll be fine!

Trainer: Ok.

The client doesn’t want you to be bothered with having to find someone to cover his or her appointment. But, that’s the personal trainer’s job! Your clients will get a far better workout and maintain their routine if you get their session(s) covered while you’re away.

The NWPT Way (aka…The Right Way):

Trainer: Hey Joe, I’m going to be on vacation in 2 weeks. Ted could fit you into his schedule, so I’ve already got you booked with him. He’s an awesome trainer and he’s really excited to give you a fabulous workout. It’ll be a great change for you and you’ll probably learn some new things and train your muscles in a different way. .

Client: That sounds great.

Trainer: So, just show up at your normal time. I’ve instructed Ted with what I’d like him to focus on for your session. It’ll be a great workout.
