I get asked this question quite often. I have found that is best for business owners and managers to ask themselves a series of questions and weigh the different options, but it is difficult to know where to start right?
I am here to help! Here are a couple points to consider:
- Do you have independent contractors or employees? (you can read more on this specific topic in THIS past blog)
- Do you need to make a change and make your independent contractors your employees?
- Figure out how much overhead and involvement the business has compared to the trainer
- Take into consideration the goal of your personal training program
- Find out what the competition is paying
- Weigh the different payment structures
- How much risk are you able to take?
I recently wrote an article for Club Industry titled “How to Determine a Fair Compensation Package for Your Personal Trainers” where you can find TONS of details on each of the points I list above. Read through this article and work your way through each point….in the end you will feel comfortable and confident with the compensation choices you make. Your bottom line and your trainers will thank you!
Good luck and please post comments below to let me know if this information has been helpful!
Yours in health, fitness and business,
