Getting MY Workout In….

Fit Pros….you are just as busy as the average American and if you are like me…I sometimes find it tough to make time and muster the energy to get my workout in. You’ve been at the gym all day working and training clients. Often, at the end of your shift, you just want to go home and the last thing you want to do is stay longer at the gym to get your own workout in. So how do you stick with your own workout regiment?

Get Your Workout In:

 

  • Make It A Priority

    • You know that your life is better, you feel great and are more productive when you do exercise. Secondly, you have learned to be efficient and effective in your life to know how to fit workouts in that don’t necessarily require more time. Third, you understand if you can’t be disciplined enough to walk your talk, how are you going to teach and coach others to do it! So NOT working out is NOT an option!
  • Let’s Do It Together

    • Combine your workouts with your quality time with loved ones. Recognize they you may not have the time to do both separately but by combining you can do it all!
  • Go Hard

    • Remember the option to replace long duration and easy intensity cardio with short and hard interval training.  As you know….you can accomplish the same workload in a shorter period of time so when you don’t have a ton of time, go hard and fast.
  • Combine Exercises

    • Just as you tell your clients….combine muscle conditioning movements.  For example, instead of doing one set of squats and then one set of overhead shoulder presses, they will combine the movements and do a squat with an overhead shoulder press at the same time.  This efficient way to train and saves a ton of time isn’t just for your clients!
  • Keep Moving

    • Try removing any rest periods.  So for example, instead of doing 3 sets of bench press with a minute rest in between, do your core training in between your Bench Press sets.  Or perform lower body and upper body exercises back to back with no rest in between. Removing the rest periods can save a ton of time!
  • Cardio/Muscle Blast

    • I often don’t have the time to do separate cardio and muscle workouts so I often workout in a way that allows me to train both fitness components at the same time. You may intersperse cardio segments in between muscle conditioning exercises or perform circuit workouts with high intensity callisthenic exercises that condition muscles and the cardio system.
  • Less Reps

    • Instead of doing high-endurance muscle conditioning, which takes longer, try lifting heavier and keep repetitions between 8 and 12.
  • Move Your Body ALL The Time

    • You get a ton of activity all day just because you are moving around so much as you are training clients, even if it’s not your own workout. So even on the days you can’t get your own workout it….at least you have been active all day.
  • Focus!

    • Focus on what you are doing when you are working out to maximize your workouts and results. You see it all the time….gym-goers zoning out watching TV or reading a magazine while workout out. Don’t fall into that trap yourself. Maximize your workouts by, putting away the books, magazines and distractions while working out so you can focus on what you’re doing and get in and out of the gym more quickly.
  • Motivation

    • You fully understand what you need to do to get it done. If your just not feeling it, rely on your favorite, high-energy pumping music playlist to find your inner motivation. Or try watching a 2 minute youtube clip highlighting inspirational athletes to get yourself going. Or call a workout buddy to join you for your workout to assure you get it done.

 

I understand that as a Fit Pro you know a majority (if not all) of these trick, but I have them all here in one list. If you ever feel like skipping a workout….look at this list and choose your motivation.

You know that rather than exercise taking up too much time, it will actually give you more time, energy and increased productivity. You know you will look better, feel better and live a better life when you workout and take care of themselves….so just do it.
